One of the new guard of leading British Indies, Formosa Films pursues the spirit of challenging, in-your-face filmmaking pioneered by the likes of British legends Alan Clarke and Nic Roeg, US auteurs such as Kubrick and Scorsese and the masters of the cinematic art such as Sirk, Hitchcock and Welles.

CLUBBED, the first project to go in front of the lens was written by BAFTA winner Geoff Thompson and inspired by his Sunday Times best selling book.

CLUBBED screened at the market in this year’s Cannes Film Festival and will premiere in the UK towards the end of this year as well as at the Dinard Film Festival in France in October. Formosa Films have signed an exclusive worldwide deal on the film with prestigious sales agent AV pictures who have already sold a number of key territories including France, Australia, Benelux, Poland and Turkey. The UK release will be in January 2009 in cinemas nationwide.

Pioneering the now industry-standard EIS Scheme, our innovative funding strategy ensures we stay at the coal face of film financing. We have a range of feature film projects in development across all genres.

Retaining maximum control of all our projects we protect our investor's interests by keeping budgets low and building relationships with some of the UK's finest talent.

In the UK projects traditionally pre-sell rights internationally to form a percentage of the budget with the remainder coming from a broadcaster, independent financier, bank loan or similar facility.
In exchange for this funding producers sacrifice the rights to the film’s exploitation around the world and any secondary markets such as downloads, VOD and DVD. In addition they are often asked to defer their fees.

Formosa believes in an alternative model which combines private equity together with regional funding or other ‘soft’ money and the new UK film tax credit. This forms a much more efficient system of funding and offers a far more exciting and potentially lucrative deal to the investor.

When a teenage Asian boy is accused of a fatal gang shooting, his showbiz journalist sister attempts to clear his name. She is soon caught up in a hidden world of corrupt cops, media manipulation and worst of all, a notorious gang, the TWENTY8K……

The story rips away the façade of those anonymous areas between the inner city and its outskirts

The suburbs of any large city look alike, characterised by rows of well-kept gardens and just-washed cars, they are the epitome of respectability. But the veneer of civilisation is fragile and when it breaks, the community will seek to restore order by any means necessary.

Showbiz journalist DEEVA JANI returns to her family home in leafy Southwood Park, following the shocking news that her fifteen-year-old brother VIPON has been arrested for a gang shooting. A media circus of intense proportions ensues, crystallizing local opinion against Vipon and his family.

Local journalist JUDE and attractive ex-gang member turned youth worker NICK MAY, help Deeva in her attempt to clear Vipon’s name. They are up against terrifying adversaries’ including the corrupt and powerful Superintendent STONE, who has a personal and political agenda in maintaining the status quo.

When events escalate, STONE becomes increasingly desperate to protect his secrets. The whirlwind that ensues threatens not only Deeva’s life but those of her lover, her family and her brother’s closest friends.

TWENTY8K, a modern thriller, rips away the façade of those anonymous areas between the inner city and its outskirts to offer a frightening contemporary perspective on the myths and realities of family life, teenage gangs and a community in crisis.

TWENTY8K highlights difficult social issues such as juvenile crime, drugs, isolation, gang activity and gun violence. The company therefore consider that it is appropriate that they support a community-based charitable initiative in the context of the project.

The Directors intend to donate 10% of any personal profits that they make from their investment in TWENTY8K to Fairbridge, a charity of 20 years’ standing and which offers opportunity and support to young people in fifteen of the most disadvantaged areas across the UK.

Should an investor also wish to donate a share of any profits there is a facility to do so. Of course it is entirely optional. The donation will in addition benefit from Gift Aid which is a government scheme to aid charities by contributing an extra 28% in value (on the basis of current tax rates). More information on Gift Aid can be found at www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/faq_donors.htm

Through a combination of long-term personal support and challenging activities, Fairbridge provides young people with a route back into mainstream society. Based in 15 of the most disadvantaged urban areas in the country, Fairbridge supports 13-25 year olds who are not in education, employment or training or who have been identified as being at risk of dropping out.

Many of these young people have never received the support and opportunities that most of us take for granted. They often face a range of problems and may have been excluded from school, endured long-term unemployment, faced homelessness or become involved in criminal activity. Many are without the support of their family and on the margins of their local community.

The Directors have selected Fairbridge on the grounds that it supports underprivileged young people and encourages them to achieve their life goals with an exciting and diverse variety of opportunities. Investing in TWENTY8K may enable us and you to directly support these young people and give them the motivation, confidence and skills they need to change their own lives.

More information about Fairbridge can be found at: www.fairbridge.org.uk.
